About Betty Román
Betty Román opened Román Skin & Body Care in Cary, North Carolina, in 1991. She holds the international CIDESCO Diploma, helped win separate licensing for North Carolina estheticians, and formulates the Román Skin Care line.
Training in D.C. and Paris
Betty was born in North Carolina and raised in Georgia. Her own skin problems as a teen and young adult drew her to skin care.
She trained at the Aesthetic Skin Care Center in the Washington, D.C. area, one of the leading private skin care institutes of its time. The training was European and holistic: skin and body treated as one system. She went on to earn the CIDESCO Diploma, the international credential for estheticians, and studied in Paris, where she still returns to train.
Licensing in North Carolina
When Betty started, North Carolina had no separate license for estheticians. She co-founded the North Carolina Esthetician Association (NCEA) to create one, and served as its spokesperson. After ten years of lobbying, the bill passed the House and Senate in 1998, and Betty received one of the state's first esthetician licenses.
She then worked with the State Board of Cosmetic Art as a continuing-education instructor, examiner, and curriculum developer.
Teaching and writing
In 2008 Betty published Spa Girl, a book about professional skin care. She has written skin care articles for years, posts on our blog, and trains new estheticians at the spa.
Why she made her own line
Betty worked with many professional skin care brands over the years, and none of them covered everything her clients needed. She developed Román Skin Care so clients could keep up their treatment results at home. In her words: “I want my clients to feel and look beautiful every day, not just on spa day.”

Daniela, esthetician
Daniela trained at Christine Valmy International School in Pine Brook, New Jersey, and holds certificates in sugaring, airbrush makeup, and lash extensions.
She specializes in congested skin, deep-cleaning facials, and body treatments, plus makeup application, lash and brow tinting, brow lamination, and lash lifts.
